At the age of 70 I went into hospital for the first time to have a hip replacement. Dr Philip Das made me feel at ease and told me in very understandable terms what would happen whilst I was in theatre and that I could either have a general anaesthetic or a spinal block. Having reassured me that being awake during the operation would not be a problem and that I would recover quicker I decided to go ahead with a spinal block. I can say I felt no pain and was able to speak with Dr Das during the operation. If I were to be in the same situation again I would have a spinal block. Dr Das visited me in the ward on the day after the operation to ensure everything was all right. I could not have been more pleased with the way things went.

Dr Das was my anaesthetist at the Fitzwilliam Hospital in Peterborough. During the pre-operation visit, he was first of all, very calming; giving me the feeling of confidence and knowledge. He was very clear with options available to me and providing enough information and guidance for me to make a fully informed decision. Before, during and after the operation the calming demeanour made me completely relaxed, to my great surprise! Dr Das also paid a visit to my room the next day to see how my recovery was going, and called the nursing station the day after for a final check. Highly recommended.
